Charity Walk funds to be distributed
Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi, along with Christof Luedi, chairman of the Hawaii Island Chapter of the Hawaii Lodging &Tourism Association, and members of its board will distribute 2014 Charity Walk checks at a reception to be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Wailana Garden at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii.
Approximately 60 Island of Hawaii nonprofit organizations will receive the more than $250,000 raised at the 36th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk held at the Mauna Lani Resort on May 10.
Senior ID cards issued in August
The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5 at Kmart in Kailua-Kona.
Staff will also issue cards from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at St. Jude’s Church in Hawaii Ocean View Estates; 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at Kohala Coordinated Services for the Elderly in Kohala; 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 22 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook; and 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Honokaa Hale Hauoli Senior Center.

Hui hosts two community speakers
West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in the West Hawaii Community Health Center meeting room.
Workforce Development will have two representatives at the meeting. Additionally, Anne Bailey from the Hawaii County Housing Agency will attend. Both agencies will provide an update and answer questions.

Buddhist public talk and retreat set
Anam Thubten, founder and spiritual adviser of Dharmata Foundation, will hold a public talk from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tutu’s House in Waimea, 64-1032 Mamalahoa Highway.
A retreat will be held Saturday and Sunday at a private location. Directions will be given upon registration. The retreat will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The cost is $120 for both days. Bring own lunch.

Fujihara teaching ukulele, hula classes
Roselle Fujihara is teaching ukulele and hula classes for the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation. Cost for eight sessions is $40. Registration is required; call 961-8706.
Beginning ukulele I classes are scheduled from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and beginning ukulele II classes are scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 4 to Sept. 29, at Hale Halawai. Students should bring an ukulele.
Beginning hula is scheduled from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and intermediate hula from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 6 to Sept. 24, at Hale Halawai.
Ka‘u High class of 1979 plans reunion
The Ka‘u High School class of 1979 is planning a reunion for Aug. 22 at Ray’s on the Bay restaurant at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. Pupu and drinks will begin at 6 p.m.

Caregiving for Vets program slated
The Kona Vet Center and Laura Guluzzy, gerontologist, are offering Caregiving for Vets from 10 to 11 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Kona Vet Center, Hale Kui Plaza, Suite 207, 73-4976 Kamanu St. above Home Depot. The presentation will share tips and discussion during an interactive talk on challenges and issues of caring for a veteran.
Guluzzy consults and lectures on aging specializations in falls prevention and management, aging-friendly communities, intergenerational communication with aging and diversity, and caregiving.

Hospital auxiliary plans general membership meeting
